The materials specialist earth4Earth will be revealing its carbon negative bricks for the first time at the London Build Expo on stand J5.
The company is leading a revolution in the construction industry by introducing building materials that are carbon negative, and fully recyclable.
The earth-based bricks absorb and store carbon dioxide throughout their entire life cycle, turning buildings into CO₂ absorption systems.
“At the end of their life, the bricks can be crushed, repurposed and returned to the earth as agricultural soil and fertiliser,” said Lei Zhang, Chairman and CEO of earth4Earth.
“During this process, additional carbon is captured, and this continues as plants grow from the soil. This ensures that the carbon capture is not only permanent but cumulative. With this, building projects can achieve net zero or even become carbon negative.”
The innovative bricks are the first products launched by earth4Earth and will be available in the UK market from early next year. They have high durability, exceptional thermal conductivity and are fire resistant. As a result, they create comfortable and safe spaces, whilst also helping to mitigate climate change.
“We understand the importance of improving sustainability in the construction sector without compromising on quality or increasing costs,” said Lei.
“That is why we have developed products with superior or comparable properties at a similar price to commonly used materials.”
Like traditional clay bricks, lime is used as a binder to enhance strength and durability. Whilst conventional lime is produced at very high temperatures, releasing significant CO2 emissions, earth4Earth has developed a novel lime that not only emits less CO2 during production but also captures carbon during the process.
“Depending on the formulation and customer requirements, we can produce bricks with compressive strengths ranging from 5 to 25 MPa after 28 days of curing under atmospheric conditions”, said Marco Simoni, Principal Research Engineer at earth4Earth. “Our focus is what the customer needs and our bricks can be adapted to their requirements.”
Members of the earth4Earth team will be at stand J5 at the London Build Expo on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st November. The event is free to attend and will feature exhibitors and speakers from across the construction sector, with a dedicated sustainability stage. Attendees can register for free online here.

GeoTechnical Advisor Yan Geng presented the company's life cycle negative materials at the the 'Soils, Materials Recovery and Waste in Construction' workshop, held at the University of Greenwich.
Dr Geng's research shows how earth4Earth's carbon negative and low carbon bricks are made with excavated soil, which would otherwise go to landfill.
The event featured case studies of waste and soils treatment and explored topics including construction and demolition waste management and developments in waste regulation.
The event was a Mini-WASCON meeting, held in conjunction with the 19th Soils in the South East Workshop (SSE19).
The mini meetings are part of the larger WASCON conference series, which explores using alternative materials in construction and the technical and environmental effects of this.
Thank you to The International Society for the Environmental and Technical Implications of Construction with Alternative Materials (ISCOWA), Soils in the South East, Contaminated Land: Applications in Real Environments (CL:AIRE) and the University of Greenwich for hosting this important and insightful event.

earth4Earth's first factory was formally opened on the 17th of April 2024 in Wuhan, China.
Since being founded in 2023 the company has experienced rapid growth with over 30 team members now based in China and the UK.
The factory will be used to manufacture life cycle carbon negative materials including carbon negative and low carbon bricks.
